The Ogbunke cace sytems has developed in the lateritic sandstones of eastern Nigeria. In addtion to showbing sine interesting geological features the cave contains large populations of vertebrate and ivertebrate animals .Members of the more abundant animal groups in theses populations have been identifield to genereci level and, in a few isntances to speficic level. Both miicrobiological and field investigacions suggest the the guano deoisuts from the large bat colony roosting in the cave paly a central role in maintaing the food supplies required for the large and diverse invertebrate fauna in the cave
