Many papers have been written on various of Willian Pengelly , life and achievements. This is intended as a more popular account of this life and starts wih his boyhood and early manhod in cornawall much of which was soent in self education, His move to torquay at the age of twenty-four followed where he immediately a school, and in the esnuing few years was intrumental in founding several local scientific instituion. He was now established as ageologist of national repute and travelled widelv, but emphasis os palced on his wider scientificinterests including antropology, meterology, mathematical ans astronomy
